Job summary

Westfield High School in Westfield, MA is seeking an experienced School Adjustment Counselor for a full-time role starting January 5, 2026. The counselor will support students with adjustment challenges, collaborate with staff, and help develop behavioral plans and IEP-related objectives.

Ideal candidates hold certification from the Massachusetts DESE and have experience in elementary or early childhood settings.

Qualifications

Certification required by MA DESE.
Three years teaching experience desired.
Experience in elementary school or early childhood setting desired.

Responsibilities

Counsel, test and assist in developing programmatic alternatives for students with serious adjustment problems.
Work cooperatively with staff related to the programs for these identified students.
Establish positive relationships with the home.
Serve as a referral agent to obtain outside assistance when needed.
Be involved in developing behavioral objectives for IEPs.
Attend case conferences on students as required.
Maintain pertinent records on all referred students.
Meet with teachers to follow up on program recommendations.
Work on potential referrals for student assistance program when needed.
Participate in 504 team meetings.
Develop behavioral plans.
Perform any other duties assigned by the building principal or Superintendent of Schools.
