Job summary

Heartspring in Wichita, KS is seeking paraprofessionals to support students with autism in a therapeutic school setting. You will work with teachers and therapists to help students build academic, communication, social, and independent living skills.

The role emphasizes individualized support, collaboration within a multidisciplinary team, and adherence to IEPs and daily routines. A high school diploma and 1+ years of related experience are required, with pre-employment screenings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• 1+ years of experience working with children or individuals with disabilities preferred.
• Valid Kansas driver’s license preferred and may be required to transport students in Heartspring vehicles.
• Pre-employment screenings include drug screen, physical, lifting test, and background checks.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to stay calm in challenging situations.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with students with autism and other neurodevelopmental disabilities in a therapeutic school environment.
• Provide individualized and small-group support to help students achieve academic, communication, social, behavioral, and functional living goals.
• Assist teachers and therapeutic teams with implementing individualized education programs and daily classroom routines.
• Support students with activities of daily living (ADLs) and help build independence in communication and self-care.
• Provide positive reinforcement and tailored support to encourage participation and progress.
• Observe progress and communicate changes or concerns with teachers and the interdisciplinary team.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to provide consistent support and continuity of care.
• Maintain a safe, structured classroom environment.
• Follow Heartspring policies and KSDE requirements.
• Maintain accurate documentation while protecting student confidentiality.
