Job summary

University Health Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri, seeks a Certified Recreation Therapist for a full-time Long Term Care role operating 8:00 AM–4:30 PM. The position supports a 40‑hour work week at UH Lakewood Medical Center.

Responsibilities include evaluating residents, designing TR plans, mentoring interns, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to enhance residents’ physical, cognitive, social, and emotional well-being.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation.
• CTRS or other professional discipline certification required.
• Verbal communication skills to lead activities.
• Written communication skills for required documentation.
• Maintain current BCLS or HeartSavers certification if department requires.
• Fleet Driving Safety and Compliance Policy requirements must be met.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate residents, develop individualized Therapeutic Recreation plans, document progress, and modify interventions based on resident needs.
• Plan and facilitate individual and group therapeutic recreation programs using various modalities.
• Participate in multidisciplinary care plan meetings and communicate resident progress and treatment plans.
• Collaborate with the TR team on department planning, operations, and service delivery.
• Maintain equipment and supplies and ensure a safe, clean environment.
• Provide supervision and mentorship to TR interns, assistants, volunteers, and non-certified recreation therapists.
• Maintain professional knowledge and stay current with advances in Therapeutic Recreation.
• Promote quality improvement, patient and staff safety, cultural diversity, and age-appropriate care.
• Provide courteous, respectful service while meeting residents' physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs.
• Maintain compliance with applicable regulations, standards, and organizational policies.
