Therapeutic Recreation Therapist IV
This is a Monday - Friday position with evenings 1 time per month for support groups and occasional community outings.
General Summary
Delivers advanced recreational therapy services through evaluation of patient needs, goal setting, and development of treatment plans based on recreational therapy principles and practices. Collaborates with leadership to identify gaps and opportunities for professional growth, assists in resolving complex clinical and operational issues, and supports team training and supervision.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following describes the general nature and level of work performed by individuals in this role. It is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities.
- Performs advanced recreational therapy services in accordance with standards, certification scope, and organizational policies.
- Conducts patient assessments, develops, and implements individualized treatment plans, and re-evaluates as needed.
- Documents evaluations, care, and progress in accordance with standards.
- Informs patients, families, and team members of evaluation results and treatment plans, referring for further evaluation when necessary.
- Provides therapy education and counseling to individuals.
- Participates in and ensures effective training and supervision of students and team members.
- Ensures safe, patient-centered care and excellent customer service.
- Works with leadership on program development, professional growth, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Assists in resolving clinical and operational issues to ensure high-quality care and departmental efficiency.
- Supports equipment and supply management and participates in procurement decisions.
- Promotes professional development, mentorship, and training within the team.
- Assists in hiring, onboarding, training, supervising, and evaluating team members.
- Supports a positive, goal-oriented work environment with clear procedures and standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications include:
- 4 years of experience as a certified therapeutic recreation specialist
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist certification
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Rehab experience and experience with adaptive sports and leading ground activities preferred
