Job summary

Acadia Healthcare is seeking a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to plan, direct and implement activity therapy as part of the patient’s treatment plan. The role requires creating engaging programs, assessing needs and guiding patients toward treatment goals within a healthcare setting.

The candidate should hold a Bachelor's in Therapeutic Recreation (Master’s preferred) with 3+ years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field is required.
• Master’s degree is preferred.
• Three or more years’ experience in recreation in a healthcare setting with knowledge of patient population served by the facility is required.
• Previous experience in recreation in a healthcare setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Complete activity assessment through patient observation and interviews to inform treatment plans.
• Plan, organize, direct and implement activities within the treatment program to progress toward goals.
• Develop and implement activities program including therapeutic leisure skills, education and awareness.
• Lead activity sessions to improve patient mental and physical well-being.
• Instruct patients in activities and techniques (sports, dance, music, art, relaxation) tailored to needs.
• Develop treatment plans and activity interventions aligned with patient goals.
• Engage patients in therapeutic activities such as exercise, games and outings.
• Help patients learn social skills to remain independent.
• Modify activities for diverse groups.
• Maintain professional, empathetic attitude and address patient concerns with safety as priority.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field

Master’s degree preferred
