Job summary

Acadia Healthcare is seeking a qualified Activity Therapist to plan, direct and implement activity therapy programs as part of the patient’s treatment plan at our facility. You will assess patient needs, organize therapy sessions including leisure activities, and lead staff when applicable.

A Bachelor’s in Therapeutic Recreation is required; a Master’s degree is preferred, with two+ years in healthcare recreation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy or related field required.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Two or more years' experience in recreation in a healthcare setting with knowledge of patient population served by the facility is required.
• CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
• First aid may be required based on state or facility.

Responsibilities

• Complete activity assessment through patient observation and interviews to tailor treatment plans.
• Plan, organize, direct and implement activities within the program to support treatment goals.
• Lead therapy sessions including leisure skills, education and relaxation techniques.
• Instruct patients in activities and techniques (sports, dance, music, art) to meet needs.
• Direct and supervise staff in the activity therapy program when applicable.
• Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude toward patients; address complaints.
