Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• TRD Therapeutic Recreation Certificate or equivalent certification per governing bodies.
• 1 year of full-time experience in a social or recreational program within the last 2 years in a health care setting.
• Must read, write, speak and understand English to ensure safety and wellbeing.

Responsibilities

• Puts Customer Service First: ensure high quality, compassionate service.
• Gathers information to complete comprehensive assessment.
• Assists Recreation Director in planning individual and group programs aligned with patient needs and treatment goals.
• Encourages patient involvement in recreation planning.
• Contributes to meaningful programs with creative, intellectual, physical, service, social and spiritual elements.
• Documents residents’ participation and progress in recreation programming.
• Maintains records to support planning, evaluation and revision.
• Assists in establishing and maintaining an effective volunteer program through recruitment and supervision.
• Provides resources and materials for residents’ independent engagement.
• Meets program goals and performance objectives.
• Assists in orientation, supervision and coaching of recreation assistants.
• Develops positive relationships with patients’ families.
• Orients family members to recreation services and encourages participation.
• Ensures all recreation programs adhere to safety and infection control standards.
• Ensures confidentiality of protected information.
• Is knowledgeable and upholds resident rights.
• Performs other duties as requested.
