Job summary

Canton Township is seeking a Therapeutic Recreation Program Leader (Variable Hour) to guide and supervise activities for special needs populations within Parks, Recreation and Community Services. The role includes coordinating participants, ensuring safety, and transporting participants to events.

Requires 18+ years old, a valid driver's license, and certifications in CPR/AED and first aid within 30 days, plus CPI within 90 days. Hours Tue–Thu 8:00am–4:00pm with variable shifts.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 18 years old.
• Must possess a current, valid Driver's License with a driving history that does not raise liability concerns.
• Must obtain CPR/AED and first aid certification within 30 days of employment.
• Must obtain Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) certification within 90 days of employment.
• Prior experience working or volunteering with special needs populations preferred.
• Ability to work a variety of shifts including afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise activities for special needs populations and programs.
• Coordinate planning, supervision, and setup of participants and events.
• Transport program participants in Township vehicles and chartered buses.
• Ensure safety rules and policies are followed across programs.
• Maintain accurate reports including accident and incident reports.
• Respond to emergencies calmly and document incidents.
