Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy or related field required.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Two or more years’ experience in recreation in a healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

• Complete activity assessment through patient observation and interviews to inform the treatment plan.
• Plan, organize, direct and implement activities within the treatment program to support progress.
• Implement activities including therapeutic leisure skills and education.
• Lead activity sessions to improve patients' mental and physical well-being.
• Instruct patients in activities such as sports, dance, music, art or relaxation techniques.
• Develop and implement activity interventions meeting patient needs and goals.
• Plan interventions to promote safe use of leisure time.
• Provide interventions to develop social skills and leisure independence.
• Modify activities to suit different groups.
• Direct and supervise activity staff in program delivery when applicable.
• Maintain a positive empathetic attitude and address patient safety and complaints.
