Job summary

Acadia Healthcare in Delaware is seeking a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to plan, direct and implement activity therapy programs as part of the patient’s treatment plan. You will assess patient needs, design engaging recreational activities, lead sessions, and help patients build social and leisure skills in a healthcare setting.

Required: Bachelor's in Therapeutic Recreation or related field, CTRS or in progress, CPR and de-escalation training, 3+ years of healthcare recreation experience;

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy or related field required.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Three or more years’ experience in recreation in a healthcare setting with knowledge of patient population served by the facility required.
• CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification required (training available upon hire). First aid may be required.
• CTRS certification or current pursuit; or licensure with expressive therapy certification may be required.

Responsibilities

• Complete activity assessment through patient observation and patient/family interview.
• Plan, organize, direct and implement activities within the treatment program to meet goals.
• Lead activity sessions to improve mental and physical well-being.
• Instruct patients in activities such as sports, dance, music, art or relaxation techniques.
• Develop treatment plans and interventions meeting patient needs and goals.
• Engage patients in therapeutic activities and community outings.
• Promote social skills and independence for patients.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy or related field

Master’s degree

Three or more years’ experience in recreation in a healthcare setting

CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification

First aid certification
