Job summary

Vernon Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center is seeking a part-time Therapeutic Recreation Aide to support our Special Care Unit. You will implement a therapeutic recreation program to enhance residents' quality of life, with a focus on dementia and memory care populations.

The role emphasizes group and one-on-one activities, documentation, and collaboration with the care team to support daily living activities and restorative programs.

Qualifications

• Certified Therapeutic Recreation Director certification per CT Public Health Code.
• Ability to read, write, and comprehend English; ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of word processing (Microsoft Office) helpful.
• Ability to work hours as scheduled based on the requirements of the position assignment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the planning and implementation of group activities designed to motivate, stimulate, and improve the quality of life for facility residents.
• Conduct one-on-one individualized activities and sensory stimulation for residents who do not actively participate in group activities.
• Document resident participation and progress.
• Assist with supply inventory, planning of purchases for the department, and organization of activities.
• Assist with the transportation of residents to areas where programs are being conducted.
• Conduct assessments of new admissions, documenting historical interests, hobbies, and abilities, as well as current limitations, prognosis, and family expectations.
• Implement required programs, maintain thorough records, and support resident progress with activities of daily living and other restorative programs.

Schedule

• Part-time position requiring coverage of specific hours: 9 am to 5 pm every Friday and every other Saturday and Sunday
