Job summary

Vernon Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center is seeking a part-time Therapeutic Recreation Aide to join our Special Care Unit. You will help implement a therapeutic recreation program that improves residents’ quality of life, with a focus on individuals with dementia and memory care needs.

Responsibilities include planning and leading activities, conducting one-on-one sessions, documenting progress, and assisting with supplies and transportation to activity areas.

Qualifications

• Certified as a Therapeutic Recreation Director as per Connecticut Public Health Code.
• Ability to read, write, and comprehend English.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of word processing and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work hours as scheduled

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning and implementing group activities to motivate and improve residents' quality of life.
• Conduct one-on-one activities and sensory stimulation for residents not participating in groups.
• Document resident participation and progress.
• Assist with supply inventory and planning of department purchases.
• Help transport residents to activity areas.
• Assess new admissions and document interests, hobbies, abilities, and expectations.
• Implement programs and maintain records to support progress with daily living activities and restorative programs

Responsibilities

• Assist with the planning and implementation of group activities designed to motivate, stimulate, and improve the quality of life for facility residents
• Conduct one-on-one individualized activities and sensory stimulation for residents who do not actively participate in group activities
• Document resident participation and progress
• Assist with supply inventory, planning of purchases for the department, and organization of activities
• Assist with the transportation of residents to areas where programs are being conducted
• Conduct assessments of new admissions, documenting historical interests, hobbies, and abilities, as well as current limitations, prognosis, and family expectations
• Implement required programs, maintain thorough records, and support resident progress with activities of daily living and other restorative programs

Requirements

• Certified as a Therapeutic Recreation Director in accordance with the regulations of the Connecticut Public Health Code
• Ability to read, write, and comprehend English; ability to follow oral and written instructions
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of word processing (including Microsoft Office) and other office equipment helpful
• Ability to work hours as scheduled based on the requirements of the position assignment

Schedule

• Part-time position requiring coverage of specific hours: 9 am to 5 pm every Friday and every other Saturday and Sunday
