Job summary

The Developmental Disabilities - Columbus Developmental Center, part of the State of Ohio, seeks a dedicated Direct Support/Direct Care worker for a permanent full-time role in Columbus, Ohio. The position involves assisting residents with daily living activities and implementing active treatment in a supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Formal education in arithmetic including addition & subtraction and in reading, writing and speaking common English vocabulary.
• Must possess a high school diploma or a certificate of high school equivalence.
• STNA certification or listed on Ohio Nurse Aide Registry may be required for some positions.
• A valid driver's license is required for roles involving transportation of consumers.

Responsibilities

• Assist with eating, bathing, toileting, personal hygiene, oral hygiene, dressing, grooming, communication, money management, etiquette and social skills.
• Implement active treatment activities (gym, pavilion, activity room, pool).
• Assist with planning and shopping activities (e.g., shopping, vocational skills, hair appointments).
• Complete daily and monthly documentation, including incident reports and medication reactions.
• Perform light housekeeping in living areas and redirect unsafe actions to positive outcomes.

What You'll Do

Assists with eating, bathing, toileting, personal hygiene, oral hygiene, dressing, grooming, communication, money management, etiquette, and social skills. Complete various daily, monthly documentation. Including documentation any unusual incidents or reporting any reaction to medication. Perform light housekeeping duties in the living areas. Assists with redirecting unsafe actions to bring about positive outcomes.

Qualifications

In Department of Developmental Disabilities, must also possess a high school diploma or a certificate of high school equivalence pursuant to Ohio Administrative Code 5123:2-3-01(F) (1) (c).

Or in positions at Veteran Services in addition to above must possess STNA certification &/or listed on Ohio Nurse AideRegistry.

For positions that require operation of motor vehicle to transport consumers to recreational, educational &/or occupational activities, a valid driver's license is required.
