Job summary

Child & Family Services in Massachusetts seeks Therapeutic Mentors to provide one-to-one, strength-based support to youth. You will report to the Senior Therapeutic Mentor or Program Director and work with diverse families in community settings.

The role requires a high school diploma (or GED) with experience with youth, or an associate/bachelor in human services. A valid driver's license is essential, with travel to varied sites as needed.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Maintain a valid driver’s license and transportation to transport clients.

• Manage caseload targets: 3–5 part-time or 8–12 full-time.
• Develop individualized service plans with clinicians.
• Complete monthly/quarterly progress notes and discharge paperwork.

Summary

Therapeutic Mentors offer structured, one-to-one, strength-based support services to youth for the purpose of addressing daily living, social-emotional, and communication needs. S/he will report directly to the Senior Therapeutic Mentor or Program Director.

Job Responsibilities & Essential Functions

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Ability to transport clients in your own personal vehicle
• Must be 21 years of age or older
• Experience working with transitional age youth
• Ability to work independently
• Great organizational and communication skills
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed to include occasional weekend and/or evening work
• Supporting, coaching, and training the youth in age- appropriate behaviors, interpersonal communication, problem-solving and conflict resolution, and relating appropriately to other children and adolescents, as well as adults, in recreational and social activities pursuant to a behavioral health treatment plan developed by an outpatient provider
• Engaging the youth in activities in the community
• Address one or more goals each session on a youth’s existing outpatient or In-home Therapy treatment plan (for youth not in ICC), or on an existing ICP (for youth in ICC)
• Carry an average caseload of 3-5 if part-time, or 8-12 if full-time, of which she/he will be responsible for case management
• Develop an individualized service plan with the clinician
• Responsible for monthly/quarterly summaries, progress notes, and discharge paperwork. All paperwork must be completed and entered into the database in a timely manner
• Submit billing/units into database with a 3 day window of TM services provided

Travel Required

Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation that meets CFS Driver Policy. Travel is required to provide services in different settings and to attend agency meetings, events, and trainings

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

A Therapeutic Mentor must have a high school diploma or GED with a minimum of two years’ experience working with children/adolescents/transition-aged youth, an associate’s degree in a human services field with one year experience working with children/adolescents/transition-aged youth, or a bachelor’s degree in a human services field and one year experience working with children/adolescents/transition-aged youth.

• Demonstrates positive attitudes towards cultural differences by showing respect and openness towards people whose social and cultural background is different from one's own
• Demonstrates skills for communication and interaction across cultures, including the ability to recognize and manage personal behaviors, moods, and impulses to create an inclusive, equitable, and welcoming climate within the agency
