Job description

START (Systemic, Therapeutic, Assessment, Resources, and Treatment) employ a positive approach to build upon an individual’s strengths to fortify experiences, ambition, character, and abilities. These services promote person-centered approaches and training for persons, families, and caregivers using positive approaches and other therapeutic tools.

The Therapeutic Coach Team Leader plays a key clinical and leadership role in the implementation of the START Model, a strengths-based, trauma-informed framework designed to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and co-occurring mental health or behavioral health needs. START services are grounded in the belief that every person possesses unique abilities, talents, and potential—and that by promoting positive experiences, recognizing strengths, and fostering personal interests, we can support stability, healing, and meaningful engagement in community life.

The Therapeutic Coach Team Leader provides clinical oversight, supervision, and mentorship to a team of START Therapeutic Coaches. This leader ensures that therapeutic services, community linkages, crisis stabilization efforts, and family supports are implemented with fidelity and compassion.

Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
  • Supervise and support Therapeutic Coaches through regular performance evaluations, reflective supervision, coaching, scheduling, and case consultation.
  • Monitor and manage caseload assignments to ensure adherence to clinical guidelines, ethical standards, and program fidelity.

  • Lead onboarding and ongoing professional development, ensuring all team members are trained in START philosophy and interventions.
  • Provide training for Therapeutic Coaches on effective coaching while maintaining program fidelity.
Clinical Practice & Crisis Stabilization
  • Provide strengths-based clinical coaching and intervention to a small, active caseload, particularly during staff training or complex cases.
  • Conduct initial therapeutic assessments and develop person-centered support plans for individuals experiencing distress or instability.
  • Implement and monitor Cross-Systems Crisis Prevention and Intervention Plans (CSCPIPs) in collaboration with team members and system partners.
  • Deliver post-discharge support for individuals returning to their home or community after inpatient psychiatric or residential treatment.

  • Partner with START Coaches to deliver training, education, and hands-on support within natural environments (e.g., homes, schools, day programs).
Program Development & Systems Collaboration
  • Support the development of community partnerships and service linkages to close resource gaps and increase access to therapeutic supports.
  • Participate in program planning and strategic improvement initiatives with the START Leadership Team.
  • Uphold cultural humility and responsiveness, ensuring that services respect each person’s cultural, linguistic, and identity-based needs.
Documentation & Compliance
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation in START’s Information Reporting System (SIRS) and JEVS Human Services’ Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Maintain all necessary certifications and complete mandatory trainings, including START model training, CPR, First Aid, and Mental Health First Aid (MHFA).
  • Follow program policies and respond flexibly to the changing needs of individuals, teams, and the broader service system.
