The Chronicle of Higher Education, Inc. seeks temporary, part-time faculty to assist a diverse group of students in achieving educational goals across southern California community college districts.

Assignments are on an as-needed basis, and applicants must live within commuting distance to Orange County. Responsibilities include teaching classes per curriculum, preparing outlines and materials, assessing outcomes, and maintaining records in a professional, ethical manner.

Qualifications

• Master’s or MFA in drama/theater arts/performance (or equivalent).
• Bachelor’s or BFA in drama/theater arts/performance and Master’s in comparative literature, English, communication studies, speech, literature or humanities.
• Combination of education and experience at least equivalent to (a) or (b).

Responsibilities

Job description

Temporary, part-time faculty positions offer the opportunity toassist a diverse group of students in achieving their educationalgoals. As one of the largest community college districts insouthern California, we offer a wide range of opportunities intransfer, general education, career, and technical educationprograms. These part-time positions are on an as-needed basis andapplicants should live within commuting distance to OrangeCounty.

Performance Responsibilities

• The primary responsibilities of part-time faculty are to teachclasses in accordance with established curriculum and courseoutlines.
• The faculty member will prepare and provide students with course outlines, materials, and lectures that support learningobjectives set forth in the course syllabus; when requested, helpdevelop, and measure learning outcomes as identified by thedepartment; and assess student performance and maintain graderecords.
• Report assessment data on student learning outcomes, administrativeunit outcomes, and/or student services outcomes.
• Utilize the results of student learning outcomes assessment to makeimprovements in teaching and learning.
• Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct andethics.
• Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas.
• Follow the regulations, policies, and procedures of the college anddistrict as published.
• Complete all program/college/district reporting deadlines ontime.
• Complete and submit required documents in a timely manner.
• Make use of technology and learning materials that are current,support the lesson, and enable students to engage with thematerial.
• Establish and maintain a framework for regular and sustainedcontact with/among students if teaching distance educationcourses.
• Teach classes during the scheduled time and at the assignedlocation.
• Meet workload obligations.
• Maintain accurate records.
• May participate in curriculum review and program development.
• Assignments may include day, evening, weekend, on-line and/oroff-campus classes.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Must meet one (1) of the following qualifications under (a) through (c): (a) Master’s or Master of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance OR (b) Bachelor’s or Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama/theaterarts/performance AND Master’s in comparative literature, English,communication studies, speech, literature or humanities (c) A combination of education and experience that is at least theequivalent of (a) or (b) above. Applicants submitting anapplication on the basis of equivalency must thoroughly andcompletely answer all of the equivalency questions, in addition toproviding all other required materials.
