Job summary

The Alzheimer’s Association in Austin, Texas is seeking a Texas Government Relations Director to lead state policy initiatives, act as the association's chief lobbyist, and represent our organization before the Texas legislature, governor, agencies, coalitions and community partners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5+ years experience in state government affairs or policy staff, preferably in Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute a multi-year state legislative and regulatory agenda with a focus on state policy priorities.
  • Draft bills and regulatory language and secure bill sponsors.
  • Testify before state legislative committees and train volunteers and staff to testify.
  • Develop and grow relationships with legislators and state officials and community stakeholders.
  • Track state legislation and monitor committee meetings and actions.
  • Report lobbying activities and ensure compliance with lobbying requirements.
  • Coordinate with Grassroots Advocacy Manager for State Advocacy Day at the capitol.
  • Identify opportunities for grassroots engagement and coordinate activities.
  • Provide regular updates to the state Chapter Executive and lead reports for Board meetings.
  • Collaborate with Association staff across the state chapter to advance mission priorities.
  • Participate in major state Chapter events including Walks and galas.
