Job summary

Google in Austin, Texas seeks a State and Local Manager in Government Affairs and Public Policy to shape regional policy objectives, coordinate with state lawmakers, and build coalitions with industry groups to keep the Internet open.

You will lead campaign-style strategies on AI, data privacy, energy, and infrastructure, partner with product teams, and educate regulators and officials on Google’s local economic impact.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 7 years of experience in policy analysis and campaigns on technology issues or the policy environments that surround them.
• 7 years of experience working within government, think tanks, public interest groups, technology industry groups, or corporate public policy organizations.

Responsibilities

• Drive sophisticated legislative and regulatory strategies that foster business growth and protect a free, open internet by crafting, analyzing, and influencing policy on complex issues including AI, data privacy, content moderation, energy, competition, and the future of work.
• Serve as the primary liaison to Governor’s offices, state legislatures, and regulatory bodies where you will be developing strategies to deepen relationships with elected officials and other stakeholders.
• Build coalitions with trade associations, industry partners, and non-profits to advance shared policy goals. Manage the political giving portfolio to align with strategic objectives.
• Develop community engagement initiatives that ensure Google continues to act as a responsive and positive corporate citizen within the region.

Education
