Responsibilities

  • Communicate with students pre-course; support students while in town; coordinate with admissions and alumni departments.
  • Communicate with parents about travel, support, evacuations, etc.
  • Promote field and in-town risk management; contribute to Accepted Field Practices and curriculum materials.
  • Coordinate evacuations and care for evacuees while in town.
  • Participate in planning the next winter’s program.

As a NOLS Teton Valley Winter Program Supervisor, you will work as part of the Teton Valley program team to supervise field faculty, ensure program quality, and promote high-quality educational experiences for all Teton Valley-based winter field courses. You will provide instructor teams with curriculum, route, and risk management support, facilitate conversations within instructor teams, give feedback, evaluate performance, and mentor career development for field staff. You will also hold the evacuation phone on a rotating basis. As the Teton Valley has a short busy season and a small staff, you will be asked to assist with other departments as available/needed.

What does a Teton Valley Winter Program Supervisor do?

  • Learn, understand and supervise all aspects of Teton Valley’s winter and avalanche course offerings.

In your first season, the Winter Program Supervisor will:

80%

  • Provide field staff with quality briefings, debriefings and performance evaluations. Actively guide staff in their development at NOLS.
  • Plan and lead terrain tours. Provide coaching and continual training to instructors in regards to winter risk management, avalanche hazard evaluation and cold injuries.
  • Coach and mentor staff within the winter program, supervise seminar staff and assist in seminar development and delivery. Maintain relationships with outside industry professionals to aid in winter program development as well as instructors’ continuing education.
  • Plan for and organize all course related paperwork, including pre and post paperwork distribution and tracking.
  • Collaborate with other departments and programs/locations to enhance the NOLS Winter Program.
  • Communicate with students pre course; support students while in town to promote positive experience and effective learning environment, coordinate with admission and alumni departments.
  • Communicate with parents (travel, support, evacuations, etc.).
  • Promote field and in-town risk management; contribute to Accepted Field Practices and curriculum materials.

  • Share tasks to maintain safe, clean and efficient facilities that provide a welcoming and calm atmosphere for students and staff
  • Drive courses, support course logistics, and support operations staff as needed.
