Job summary

GE Aerospace in Dayton, OH, is seeking a Testing Specialist to execute laboratory and field validation testing, inspect instrumentation, and acquire data for power generation products. You will work with cross-functional teams to support ongoing development of aerospace power systems.

  • Use mechanical and electrical ingenuity to make decisions in a fast-paced, safe environment.
  • Execute laboratory and field validation testing, inspection and data acquisition for product design validation.
  • Design and construct test facilities, test rigs, instrumentation systems, and test software.
  • Expand knowledge within own discipline to contribute to policy/strategy.

The Testing Specialist is responsible for execution of laboratory and field validation testing, inspection, and data acquisition for use in the design and validation of Aerospace electrical power generation and conversion products and services. This role requires expertise in electrical power, electronics, data acquisition, mechanical technology, and equipment operation.

At GE Aerospace in Dayton, OH the EPISCenter is the headquarters for all of Aerospace Power Engineering. At this facility you have an opportunity to put your engineering training and skills to use. Our Engineers are focused and challenged on developing new technologies and delivering state of the art products such as Hybrid Electric aircraft, the latest military platforms, and SiC technology to name a few. If you like hands-on work, there is a 155,000 sq ft lab that includes 7 high power test cells totaling 15 MW, an EMI chamber, an electronics lab, a rapid build prototype lab, and a real time simulator lab with all the latest equipment.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Partner with cross-functional teams including EHS, quality, engineering, planning, and materials to support operational initiatives, achieve strategic business objectives, and support constant improvement site-wide.
  • Understand and strictly adhere to appropriate technical references such as Test Plans and Procedures, Equipment Operating Procedures, Quality Control Documents, Maintenance Manuals, Shop Manuals, etc.
  • Ability to use mechanical and electrical ingenuity and make decisions in a fast-paced environment in a safe, effective and efficient manner.
  • Responsible for execution of laboratory and field validation testing, inspection and data acquisition for use in the design and validation of products and services typically does not require Engineering degree
  • Responsible for design and construction of test facilities, test rigs, instrumentation systems and the development of test software
  • Broadening knowledge of own technical discipline to execute policy/strategy. May include support roles with specialized technical field of knowledge; still acquiring higher level knowledge and skills.
  • Basic understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. Good understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
  • May have some autonomy to make decisions within a defined framework. Resolves issues in situations that require good technical knowledge and judgment within established procedures. Consults more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters.
  • Available to support testing outside of normal first-shift hours and weekends as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma / GED with at least 7 years experience.
Desired Qualifications
  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology (Electrical/Mechanical/Industrial/Automation) with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with electrical power systems for commercial / military aircraft.
  • Experience with data-acquisition systems and instrumentation.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude and a desire to learn.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to collaborate with Engineering on test setups, test execution, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team or independently when required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
