Job summary

State of Indiana – INDOT is seeking a Testing Operations Technician for the LaPorte District Lab. The role involves field sampling, calibrating and transporting testing equipment, with a mix of field and office work in a full-time capacity.

Minimum qualifications include CDL or ability to obtain one within 90 days, safety compliance, and ability to operate highway maintenance and testing tasks. CDL training provided onsite and potential CDL bonus.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or Class B CDL (or obtain within 90 days).
• Pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local highway guidelines and practices.
• Ability to read, interpret and follow technical documents.
• Ability to independently lead and coordinate a field crew.
• Must endure inclement weather and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform physical activities for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Comply with all INDOT safety policies and procedures.
• Operate basic highway maintenance/traffic equipment to maintain, repair and clean highways and rights-of-way.
• Ensure staff complete work assignments and report problems to supervisors.
• Communicate with contractors to ensure procedures meet INDOT standards.
• Perform winter operations including snow and ice removal.
• Perform routine equipment maintenance and inspections.
• Maintain, repair and install traffic signs and pavement markings.
• Perform emergency response activities including lane closures and barricades.
• Workday attendance at assigned worksites is essential.
