Job summary

University of North Texas System is seeking a Testing Assistant I to support admissions testing operations in Dallas. You will prepare materials, proctor exams, and assist with scheduling, data entry, and test scoring for prospective and current students.

Qualifications

Testing Assistant I

Location: Dallas, Texas, United States

Salary: Salary commensurate with experience

FTE: 0.7

Position Overview

The Testing Assistant provides frontline services to prospective and current students, test takers, and the general public. They assist by providing the necessary materials and parameters for completing exams, proctor tests, oversee placement testing for new and returning students, enter scores, and refer students to appropriate departments after testing.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school education or equivalent is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Policies and procedures related to admissions, registration, testing, and placement; assessment and interpretation and application of test results; applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations; available college and community resources and/or programs.
  • Researching and locating information on college websites or community‑based organizations; good time management; providing excellent customer service.
  • Utilize computer technology and operate various office equipment; work with adult learners of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds; remain calm in difficult situations and offer viable solutions; effectively communicate orally and in writing; work collaboratively in a fast‑changing environment; follow protocols and escalation procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in a relevant field.
  • One year of experience working in an administrative or similar environment.
Job Duties
  • Assist with department processes, including registration, data entry, ensuring completeness of testing applications, test scheduling, and testing room seating arrangements.
  • Maintain visual supervision of candidates; observe them carefully to ensure they are working in the correct sections of the test booklet or answer sheet and to prevent collusion, cheating, and other irregularities.
  • Answer telephone calls and handle multiple lines.
  • Handle routine office inquiries.
  • Use software such as PeopleSoft, Word, Excel, and various testing software.
  • Perform other duties, tasks, and assignments as required.

Work Schedule: 27 hours per week (part‑time), schedule varies based on office needs. This is a security‑sensitive position. University vehicle: No.
