Job summary

Mercury Systems is seeking a Senior Test Technician to perform environmental stress screening and tests to validate product performance per MIL-STD-810 and customer specs. Qualifications

  • 2-5 years in environmental or lab testing with MIL-STD-810 knowledge and data acquisition experience.
  • Ability to read technical drawings/schematics and operate test systems.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain environmental test equipment (thermal chambers, shakers, centrifuges).
  • Conduct tests per MIL-STD-810 and customer specs (temperature cycling, thermal shock, vibration).
  • Set up fixtures, monitor progress, and intervene to preserve test integrity.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and recommend upgrades as needed.
  • Record, analyze, and report test results with detailed logs and documentation.
  • Generate comprehensive test reports and present findings to engineering.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance and calibration records.
  • Follow procedures from schematics and work instructions, ensuring safety and compliance.
  • Collaborate with engineering to improve test procedures and drive improvements.
  • Mentor junior staff and align with management on deadlines.

Job description

The Senior Test Technician (ESS) is responsible for performing environmental stress screening and testing to validate product performance under various conditions, ensuring compliance with MIL-STD-810 and customer specifications. This role involves operating environmental test equipment, maintaining detailed documentation, and supporting engineering teams to deliver reliable, high-quality products.

Job Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain environmental test equipment, including thermal chambers, vibration tables, and centrifuges, ensuring proper calibration and reliability.
  • Conduct environmental tests such as temperature cycling, thermal shock, burn-in, random/sine vibration (powered and unpowered), and constant acceleration according to MIL-STD-810 and customer specifications.
  • Set up test fixtures and instrumentation per test procedures, monitor test progress, and intervene when anomalies are detected to ensure test integrity.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment or test setup issues, identifying and recommending equipment upgrades or replacements as needed.
  • Record, analyze, and report test results with accuracy and completeness, maintaining detailed test logs and chain of custody documentation.
  • Generate comprehensive test reports and present findings to engineering teams to support product validation and design improvements.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance and service calls, documenting equipment maintenance history and calibration records.
  • Work from schematics, work instructions, drawings, and operating procedures while ensuring adherence to safety protocols and compliance with relevant standards.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to refine test procedures and participate in continuous improvement initiatives for test processes.
  • Cross-train and mentor new employees and junior technicians, while communicating goals and priorities with management to maintain project deadlines.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree in electronics, engineering technology, or a related field; relevant technical certifications may substitute for degree with equivalent experience.
  • Typically 2-5 years in environmental or laboratory testing with demonstrated knowledge of MIL-STD-810 and experience with data acquisition systems and test instrumentation.
  • Proficiency in operating environmental test systems (thermal chambers, shakers, etc.), understanding of basic electronics, and ability to read technical drawings/schematics.
  • Strong analytical abilities with attention to detail and competency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for data analysis and reporting.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with team-oriented approach and ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities with problem-solving mindset and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's in electronics, engineering technology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in aerospace or defense industries.
  • Experience with environmental chamber programming and automation.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
