Job summary

Karman Space & Defense is seeking a Test Technician to subject mission-critical hardware to extreme conditions in the lab. You will assist engineers, read drawings and procedures, and perform test setup and data collection.

This role requires independence, strong safety awareness around heavy equipment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Candidates typically have a HS diploma, 1–2 years in aerospace or manufacturing, and may pursue an explosives license in Washington.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or GED required.
  • Associate’s Degree or higher preferred.
  • 1–2 years in aerospace, defense, or manufacturing.
  • Ability to obtain Washington State explosives license.
  • Proficient with computers and common office applications.
  • Familiarity with crane operation and lifting equipment.
  • Physically able to climb stairs, stand for long periods, and lift 50+ lbs.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Responsibilities

  • Work with engineers and senior technicians to assist in test setup and execution.
  • Read and understand technical drawings, specifications and procedures.
  • Maintain strong safety awareness around heavy industrial equipment.
  • Assist in test planning and execution: design, analysis, and data collection.
  • Set up and tear down fixturing, equipment, and instrumentation per procedures.
  • Apply knowledge of testing based military and commercial specifications.
  • Perform lab maintenance and improvements as required.
  • Demonstrate good communication and interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Work independently with limited supervision.

Job description

Summary

The Test Technician is responsible for subjecting mission critical hardware to extreme conditions to simulate the real-world environment. Test Technicians perform many testing functions and activities found in the test lab. Common tests vary from component level pressure testing to full system functional tests. Some overlap may include supporting Environmental Testing, including Thermal, Shock and Vibration. The Test Technician will often work independently with minimal supervision. Reports to Test Engineering Manager.

What You Will Do
  • Working with engineers and senior technicians to assist in test setup and execution
  • Able to read and understand technical drawings, specifications and procedures
  • Strong understanding of Safety around heavy industrial equipment
  • Assists in test planning and execution: test design and analysis; writing procedures, test plans, and data collection
  • Performs set-up and tear-down of fixturing, equipment, and instrumentation according to engineering procedures
  • Knowledge of testing based military and commercial specifications
  • Performs lab maintenance and improvements as required
  • Demonstrates good communication and interpersonal relationship skills
  • Works independently with limited supervision
What We Are Looking For
  • Required Education: HS diploma or GED
  • Preferred Education: Associate’s Degree or higher
  • Typically possesses: 1-2 years’ experience in aerospace, defense experience, or manufacturing environments
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a test environment based on previous work experience
  • Ability & Willingness to obtain Washington State explosives license and work with energetic devices
  • Proficient with computers and familiar with common office applications
  • Familiarity with crane operation and lifting equipment desired
  • Physical requirements of this position include the use of stairs, standing for extended periods of time and occasional heavy lifting of 50+ lbs.
