Job summary

Gavial ITC in Santa Barbara, CA seeks a full-time Test Technician to perform electronic and electro-mechanical tests on systems and subassemblies. You will follow procedures, operate test equipment, and help identify root causes of failures, working closely with engineers and production teams.

Experience reading drawings and troubleshooting is required; MATLAB/SolidWorks skills are a plus. The role offers a 8-hour shift, Monday–Friday, with benefits including health and retirement programs.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• College degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering preferred.
• 1-2 years equivalent education or experience.
• Electronic troubleshooting experience and ability to read drawings.
• MATLAB and SolidWorks experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Reads test procedures, work orders, test manuals, and schematics to determine testing procedure and equipment to be used.
• Tests functional performance of systems, subassemblies, and parts under specified environmental conditions.
• Connects unit to test equipment such as multimeter, hi-pot tester, signal generator, spectrum analyzer, or oscilloscope.
• Analyzes test results to troubleshoot to the component level.
• Reads dials and displays indicating voltage, frequency, resistance, and other parameters.
• Records test data and compares with specifications; plots results as needed.
• Documents minor defects and returns units for repair; generates non-conformance reports for major defects.
• Collaborates with engineers and production personnel on testing procedures and results.
• Devises test setups for nonstandard or customer-returned units.

We are located in Santa Barbara, CA, and are looking to hire a full-time Test Technician to join our team. The Test Technician conducts a variety of electronic, mechanical, and electro-mechanical tests on electronic systems, subassemblies, and parts to ensure each unit functions according to specifications or to determine the cause of a unit failure by performing the following duties.

Test Technician Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Reads test procedures, work orders, test manuals, performance specifications, wiring diagrams, and schematics to determine testing procedure and equipment to be used.
• Tests functional performance of systems, subassemblies, and parts under specified environmental conditions such as temperature change, vibration, pressure, and humidity.
• Connects unit to be tested to test equipment such as digital multi-meter, hi-pot tester, signal generator, frequency meter, spectrum analyzer or oscilloscope.
• Analyzes test results on defective units to determine cause of failure, applying electronics theory to troubleshoot down to the component level.
• Reads dials or digital displays that indicate electronic characteristics such as voltage, frequency, distortion, inductance, resistance and capacitance.
• Compares results with specifications and records test data or plots test results on graph.
• Records minor defects on tag attached to unit and returns unit to production department for repair. Generates Non-Conformance Reports for major defects.
• Confers with engineers, technicians, production personnel, and others regarding testing procedures and results and to resolve problems.
• Devises test equipment setup to evaluate performance and operation of nonstandard or customer returned units.

Education And Experience

• High School or GED degree.
• College degree in Electronics or electrical engineering from 2-year college or technical school a plus; or 1 - 2 years equivalent education, training and experience.
• Electronic troubleshooting experience, ability to read drawings.
• MATLAB and/or SolidWorks experience a plus.
