Job summary

The Data Acquisition Group is seeking a Durability Product Development Technician responsible for fabricating transducers to measure strain, displacement, and rotation, applying strain gauges and wiring to engine, driveline, and vehicle subsystems.

You will document results and set up instrumentation for data acquisitions, install wheel force transducers and accelerometers on test vehicles, troubleshoot instrumented vehicles, and support road-load data collection, including occasional day trips

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent required.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience as mechanic or technician including a minimum of 1 year of experience with fabrication skills such as welding & machining
• Familiarity with suspension/driveline systems and components.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate transducers to measure strain, displacement, and rotation.
• Install strain gauges and wiring to engine, driveline, chassis, and body components.
• Document results and instrument data acquisitions on vehicles.
• Troubleshoot instrumented vehicles and transducers.
• Support data acquisitions on road tests; travel to Chelsea Proving Grounds as needed.

Job description

The Data Acquisition Group - Durability Product Development Technician is responsible for the fabrication of transducers to measure strain, displacement, rotation, application of strain gages and wiring to engine, driveline, chassis, and body components/systems. The position requires documentation of results and vehicle instrumentation for data acquisitions - including installation of wheel force transducers, other force transducers, accelerometers, displacement transducers, and on vehicles for road load data acquisition. In addition, the Mechanic/Technician will troubleshoot instrumented vehicles / transducers. Responsibilities for fixture of building, welding, machining, and disassembly of prototype vehicle chassis/driveline components. Day trips to Chelsea Proving Grounds are required to support data acquisitions.

Basic Qualifications:

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent required.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience as mechanic or technician including a minimum of 1 year of experience with fabrication skills such as welding & machining
• Familiarity with suspension/driveline systems and components.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree
• ASE certification
• A minimum of 1 year of experience with instrumentation and operation of various test equipment.
• Familiar with a variety of tools (hand, bench and machine).
• Experience with strain gaging.
• Good communication skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
• Advanced mechanical and electrical experience/knowledge.
• Flexibility to attend day trips to Chelsea Proving Grounds to support data acquisitions.
