Position Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Test Kitchen Manager to manage the daily operations of our dynamic test kitchen environment. This role is pivotal in ensuring a clean, efficient, and well-stocked space that enables our product developers and technicians to create, test, and refine innovative food products. The ideal candidate will have experience in the food industry, strong organizational skills, and a passion for supporting culinary innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Kitchen Operations & Maintenance

  • Oversee the overall organization and workflow of the test kitchen.
  • Ensure cleanliness and hygiene standards are upheld, including:
  • Deep cleaning of equipment
  • Dishware and cloth ware washing and organizing
  • Feedback and oversight of external cleaning crew
  • Ensure kitchen GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) are followed at all times.

Procurement & Inventory

  • Order ingredients, supplies, and consumables weekly through McLane’s, Sysco, LaBatt’s, Amazon, and local grocery stores.
  • Manage invoice processing and communication with accounting.
  • Receive shipments daily, logging and storing items in appropriate storage areas (dry, refrigerated, or frozen).
  • Ship products as requested, including packaging with dry ice as needed.
  • Equipment & Certification Oversight
  • Conduct daily temperature checks and coordinate periodic deep cleaning and preventive maintenance for kitchen equipment.
  • Manage certification records for vendors and ensure employee food safety certifications are current.
  • Monitor and manage off-site storage of equipment, encouraging responsible usage and disposal of outdated items.
  • Storage & Sustainability
  • Maintain clean and organized storage areas.
  • Coordinate donation of usable food to local charities and execute the kitchen recycling program.

Training & Scheduling

  • Maintain the test kitchen calendar and schedule usage efficiently.
  • Train new team members on kitchen protocols and best practices.
  • Sensory & Product Testing Support
  • Assist with sensory testing, sample preparation, data collection, and other product testing tasks as time permits.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • B.S. degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Culinary Sciences preferred; relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience in a food-related environment (restaurant, quality assurance, product development, etc.) required.
  • Serve Safe Certification preferred but not required

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong communicator with organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, especially within a diverse work environment.
  • Comfortable working flexible hours, including weekends, as business needs arise.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to lift 25–50 lbs. on a daily basis.
