Job Description

The Kitchen Manager at The Cottage Grocery is responsible for managing Kitchen operations and the productivity of our hard-working, collaborative line cooks, bakers, and dishwashers. This individual is critical to the successful production of hundreds of original fresh and frozen dishes that delight our loyal customers. In addition to managing BOH duties, this individual also enjoys preparing recipes alongside our Kitchen staff. This position reports to our General Manager.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate and work closely with the Front of House (FOH) Manager to ensure smooth daily operations between Back of House (BOH) and FOH.
• Interview, hire, and manage training of new and developing BOH staff, including Bakers, Line and Prep Cooks, and Dishwashers, and provide constructive performance feedback to the Kitchen team as needed.
• Oversee the preparation, labeling, and packaging of lunch, dinners, appetizers, desserts, and bakery products to ensure the team is operating at and following Cottage Grocery standards.
• Review and distribute daily recipe assignments to the team to ensure minimal waste and fully-baked products.
• Manage Kitchen inventory and ordering.
• Create schedules, manage staff assignments, and ensure adequate staffing levels to meet peak service demands.
• Prepare and/or bake a wide range of recipes.
• Ensure Kitchen equipment is in good working order, scheduling repairs and replacements as needed.
• Enforce Kitchen staff compliance with Cottage Grocery and Federal and State Food Health and Safety regulations.

Qualifications

• Valid Food Manager License (Company will pay for License and continued maintenance).
• 2+ years proven experience managing a commercial Kitchen or catering business.
• Passion for cooking and interest in learning new recipes and teaching others.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to provide helpful performance feedback to others.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
• Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy ingredients and equipment, and work in a hot environment.
• Comfortability working in a fast-paced environment.
