Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Test Engineering Technician will support Test Engineers and work closely with Test Maintenance and Test operations to design, specify, procure, commission, and maintain test equipment, as well as simplify and automate test processes.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support and lead capital projects by defining and providing feedback on technical aspects, identifying risks and mitigation steps, and developing installation and commissioning plans.
- Identify and execute continuous improvement projects aimed at automation, simplification, and enhancing test process efficiency, accuracy, robustness, and safety.
- Develop preventive maintenance plans for test equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Define equipment specifications, work with vendors to develop or improve test equipment capabilities, and modify test circuits as needed for power transformers and testing.
- Provide support and expertise to Test maintenance for troubleshooting and breakdown repairs.
- Support transformer testing activities as required.
- Create transformer test reports, troubleshoot during tests, analyze failures, and support during off-shift and weekend operations. Develop diagnostic test plans, define re-test requirements, and interpret data during failure reviews.
- Review and improve test safety practices, including conducting risk assessments.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of engineering science and technology, including principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment used in designing and producing goods and services. Familiarity with design techniques, tools, and principles for producing technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Development and troubleshooting skills in software and automation tools such as LabVIEW, Visual Studio, Visual Basic, C, C++, HMI, and data loggers.
- Knowledge of electronic applications for circuit boards, processors, chips, and computer hardware/software, including programming.
- Understanding of electrical engineering, electricity, and magnetism for conducting standard tests on transformers.
- Willingness to work overtime with short notice for emergency repairs.
- Industry knowledge and familiarity with IEEE standards related to power transformer testing.
- Experience with developing automated or high-voltage test equipment.
- Ability to read electrical schematics.
- Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Knowledge of safety issues in high-voltage environments, including electrical clearance, grounding, and PPE.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Associate degree in electronics technology or electrical engineering with at least 3 years’ experience in test automation or instrumentation, or a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
Additional Experience
- Experience in developing test system architecture, real-time data acquisition, industrial controls, LabVIEW-based automated test equipment, troubleshooting complex electronic circuits, and high-voltage test systems.
