Job summary

Our client, a leading global marine propulsion manufacturer, is expanding its U.S. Marine Technical Center in Florida to support engine testing and emissions certification programs.

The Test Engineering Technician will calibrate and operate engine test systems, collect data, and ensure equipment is calibrated and compliant with standards while collaborating with engineers on new dynamometer activities. The role requires hands-on experience with engine testing and emissions equipment, DAQ tools,

Qualifications

• Two-year technical degree in automotive technology, heavy-duty truck or engine technology, marine propulsion technology, or a related field.
• Applicants without a technical degree may be considered with more than seven years of extensive and directly relevant work experience.
• Minimum of five years of direct, relevant experience in engine development or automotive testing with significant test equipment usage and support experience.
• Hands-on experience with engine testing and emissions analysis equipment is required.
• Hands-on experience with flow meters, pressure sensors, thermocouples, and resistance temperature detectors is required.
• Familiarity with EPA 40 CFR Part 1065 and EPA 40 CFR Part 1045 is preferred.
• Experience with electronic control systems and DC electrical systems is required.
• Experience with basic electrical diagnostic tools (multimeters/oscilloscopes) and reading schematics is required.
• Familiarity with internal combustion engine fundamentals and teardown analysis is preferred.
• AVL tools/software familiarity is a plus.
• Experience with DEWESoft, LabVIEW, MATLAB or similar data acquisition/analysis tools is preferred.
• Ability to own the testing process and drive continuous improvement.
• US citizenship or lawful permanent resident status is required.

Responsibilities

• Calibrate, maintain, and operate engine test equipment and emissions analysis equipment in the laboratory.
• Instrument outboard marine engine test articles for testing.
• Install test articles into the engine test cell and execute test orders.
• Record and report test data results with accuracy.
• Maintain calibration schedules and detailed equipment records.
• Interface with computers to tailor automation and data acquisition systems for specific tests.
• Support product development engineers with engine modifications for the domestic market.
• Harmonize test procedures with the global product development organization.
• Develop or recommend test procedures, specifications, and equipment.
• Ensure compliance with EPA 40 CFR Part 1065 criteria in calibration records.

Job description

Our client is a globally recognized manufacturer of marine propulsion products known for engineering innovation, reliability, performance, and advanced outboard technology. The company maintains a strong international product development organization and is expanding its United States testing and engineering capabilities through a growing Marine Technical Center in Florida. This dedicated facility supports outboard engine development, performance validation, emissions certification, and global testing initiatives in collaboration with engineering teams around the world.

The Test Engineering Technician will operate, maintain, configure, and calibrate engine testing equipment, exhaust emissions equipment, instrumentation, automation systems, and data acquisition equipment used for in-laboratory testing of outboard marine engines. This is a hands-on opportunity to join an expanding Marine Technical Center and support the launch of a new dynamometer and emissions testing operation. The selected technician will work closely with engineers and technical specialists to prepare engines for testing, execute test orders, collect and report data, maintain detailed equipment records, and ensure laboratory measurement equipment remains properly calibrated and compliant with applicable standards. Candidates with relevant engine testing, automotive, powersports, heavy-duty engine, industrial engine, or marine propulsion experience will be considered.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Calibrate, maintain, and operate engine test equipment, emissions analysis equipment, and instrumentation used in the engine testing laboratory.
• Instrument outboard marine engine test articles in preparation for testing.
• Install outboard marine engine test articles into the engine test cell.
• Execute test orders and report test data results.
• Install, maintain, calibrate, and configure pressure sensors, temperature sensors, and other specialized testing equipment.
• Interface with personal computers and laboratory automation systems to tailor automation and data acquisition systems for specific tests.
• Support product development engineers with product modifications for the domestic marine market.
• Harmonize test procedures and workflow with the company’s international product development organization.
• Develop or make recommendations regarding test procedures, test specifications, and testing equipment.
• Maintain laboratory equipment records and ensure laboratory equipment is maintained in accordance with applicable compliance standards.
• Maintain a calibration schedule for laboratory measurement equipment.
• Keep detailed calibration records that meet EPA 40 CFR Part 1065 criteria.
• Calibrate and manage the dynamometer and related engine testing equipment.

• Experience with data acquisition and analysis tools such as DEWESoft, LabVIEW, MATLAB, or similar platforms is preferred.
• Ability to take ownership of the testing process and continually focus on process improvement
