We are seeking a highly motivated Engine Test Engineer to support engine and package performance, validation, and certification activities within our development test cells. In this role, you will plan and execute engine tests, develop test instructions and protocols, ensure regulatory compliance, and support technicians with set-up and instrumentation. You will analyze test data, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with engineering leaders to drive performance calibration, component risk assessments, and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical aptitude, data analysis skills, and the ability to work hands-on in a fast-paced test environment while managing projects, suppliers, and documentation with precision.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Execution of all engine/package performance, validation & certification test activities
  • Writing Test instructions for Dyno/Package Technicians for individual tests using WRS systems or Technical Center GA/WO systems
  • Maintaining Lafayette development cells to 1065 regulatory compliance standards
  • Managing test cell & facilities equipment suppliers. Managing supplier quotations, requisition creation & final work execution by suppliers
  • Supporting the operators & technicians in engine and after-treatment installation activities & completing critical cell intake/exhaust routing designs
  • Ensure the appropriate engine test cell systems are active in test, engine & components are appropriately instrumented, and the desired test schedules (cycles) are executed
  • Analyzing test results for performance calibration trade-off curves, mechanical & structural instrumentation data reporting, emissions test cycle reporting & any root cause analysis of unexpected deviations observed in test data captured
  • Collaborate with the technical lead to develop recommendations for engine performance calibration or component risk assessment
  • Ensure tests are run on schedule & provide weekly updates to management on progress of their projects
  • On completion of individual projects high quality documentation of work accomplished is required with report out to stakeholders in forums such as Table-Top, Deep Dives & Design reviews
  • Learn and apply principles of operations of new engine systems & aftertreatment experience (Diesel, Gas or Duel-Fuel)
  • Learn and apply principles of operations of LEC, LEC Endurance back-pad, Girtz, Engine Dyno /Package test operations (Test setup, execution & results reporting)
  • Learn and apply principles of operations of LEC in Engine Certification. Develop knowledge of Tier4 1065 test compliance regulations and other global regulatory stds. (EPA 1039, EU Stage V, China Stage 3/4)
  • Learn and apply principles of Test Acquisition Data systems such as FEV, AVL, National Instruments, Horiba, I-Test. Knowledge of CAN based protocols
  • Apply knowledge of engine component design & test experience (Pistons, Turbos, Exh. Manifold, etc.) in Test execution phase
  • Apply knowledge of validation experience (FMEA, DVP&R development, etc.)
  • Apply computer skills and learn/apply engineering data analysis tools (MS-Excel, DATK, Perfex, Matlab, Diadem, AVL Concerto & others)
  • Collaborate daily with engineering management and hourly operations staff on test execution and related activities
  • Develop and deliver root cause analysis of failures and issue resolutions recommendations
  • Work with test teams and other engineering teams on test planning, efficiency improvement plans and other key initiative
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years of engine testing experience is required, OR
  • Masters Degree with 3+ years experience
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Minimum 3-5 years of Engine Testing experience.
