Job summary

Lydian is seeking a Test Engineer, Pilot Reactor Systems, to plan and execute test campaigns on pilot-scale reactors in Charlestown, MA. You will handle day-to-day test prep, operations, troubleshooting, and collaborate with process, mechanical, and controls engineers to advance reactor testing.

The role focuses on rigorous lab work, safety, and delivering actionable results. This is an onsite position five days a week in Charlestown, MA.

Qualifications

• B.S. or higher in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• 2+ years of experience in a lab setting, executing tests and analyzing data.
• Strong attention to detail with hands-on experience in assembling and testing lab systems such as reactors or process equipment.
• Comfort with hand tools, mechanical assembly, and reading P&IDs and mechanical drawings.
• Ability to apply thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat/mass transfer to analyze data and solve problems.
• Capable of working independently to define and execute projects.
• Clear written and verbal communication; able to summarize a dataset.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Energized by challenges and getting the job done.
• Enjoys fast-paced environments and may be available outside normal hours.

Responsibilities

• Develop experiment plans in collaboration with the Pilot Test Lead and translate objectives into detailed plans.
• Execute pilot tests: start-up, monitor, troubleshoot, and log observations; ensure high uptime.
• System commissioning, maintenance, and upgrades; troubleshoot software, electronics, and plumbing issues.
• Develop, document, and standardize procedures; improve existing methods.
• Identify issues during runs and suggest hardware or procedure changes.
• Manage and analyze data; maintain rigorous experiment records and datasets.
• Present results and use past outcomes to guide future experiments.
• Follow safety SOPs, lockout/tagout, and gas-handling procedures; support hazard reviews.
