Job summary

Blue Origin in Washington state seeks an experienced engineer to optimize the development, construction, operation and maintenance of test facilities in Kent. Qualifications

  • Demonstrated initiative to improve systems, processes, and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teams with design, fabrication, installation and operation of test facilities (hydrostatic, fluid flow, propellant, pneumatic or cryogenic).
  • Collaborate across test stands to share best practices and drive efficiencies.
  • Execute projects increasing operational efficiencies across test stands.
  • Develop and execute test plans; perform data reduction and reviews.
  • Lead daily test operations, operate test consoles, direct technician work with internal customers.
  • Troubleshoot fluid and instrumentation systems; perform root cause analyses and safety improvements.

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

In this role, you will help optimize the development, construction, operation and maintenance of Blue Origin's test facilities in Kent. This is a hands‑on engineering and continuous improvement position for testing components and systems supporting all Blue Origin business units.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Assist teams with the design, fabrication, installation and operation of hydrostatic, fluid flow, propellant, pneumatic, or cryogenic test facilities
  • Collaborate across the test stands to share best practices and drive efficiencies
  • Execute projects which increase the operational efficiencies across all test stands
  • Develop and execute test plans and procedures; perform subsequent data reduction and reviews
  • Lead daily test operations, operate test consoles, direct technician work and coordinate with internal customers
  • Understand and troubleshoot fluid and instrumentation systems
  • Perform root cause, system hazard analysis and failure investigations
  • Identify opportunities for safety improvements and cost savings
  • Design, define, procure and install system components and materials; manage vendors and subcontractors during installation
  • Proactively prepare status updates and communicate both within the organization and with direct customers
  • Demonstrate high standards in test operations and work cooperatively with a team of Technicians, Responsible Engineers and BLUE customers to ensure requirements are met

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in the design, development, or operation of test facilities or similar experimental research facilities
  • Knowledge of a variety of fluids, experience with cryogenic s and high pressure gasses (>3000 psi) preferred
  • Ability and desire to understand complex systems, investigate and solve challenging problems, and work in a dynamic environment
  • Analytical orientation and safety mindset
  • Demonstrated initiative to improve existing systems, processes, and documentation
  • Ability to support weekend and second shift as needed to meet customer demands
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in test stand design, operations, and maintenance
  • Hands on operations experience with cryogenics, pressurized gas systems, fluid systems, and/or instrumentation & controls
  • Working knowledge of ASME codes and local building standards
  • Strong Project Management and team leadership skills
  • Understand /experience with hazardous operations and design for system safety
  • Experience with 3D CAD tools and data management
  • Experience with test facility instrumentation and Data Acquisition and Control Systems
  • Knowledge of systems engineering practices, fabrication and integration processes, and quality control
  • Proficiency in LabView, Python, MATLAB

Base Pay Range for:

WA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20
