Job summary

The United States Golf Association (USGA) is seeking a Test Engineer to support the Equipment Testing team. You will design, develop, and maintain testing equipment and methods, ensuring safe, accurate, and efficient testing of golf equipment for rules conformance and research.

You will lead data analysis, prepare technical reports, and collaborate with field teams. The role requires independent work, strong problem solving, and travel as needed, with the Pinehurst, NC campus serving as the base.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years or relevant experience.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and execute work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to follow and execute complex, multi-step written test procedures using laboratory and testing equipment.
  • Proficiency in software development or scripting for test automation, data analysis, or equipment control.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear technical reports and documentation.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and related data analysis/reporting tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and quality.
  • Ability to perform physical work in a laboratory, including lifting and carrying moderately heavy equipment.

About this role:

The Test Engineer is responsible for supporting the Equipment Testing team in the execution of equipment testing activities. The mission of the testing team is to complete all testing safely, accurately, and efficiently.

The Test Engineer supports this mission by maintaining and improving laboratory equipment, ensuring testing systems remain in control, and coordinating repairs/maintenance with outside parties as needed. This role is also responsible for the design, development, and implementation of new testing equipment and methodologies, managing projects from initial concept and project charter through final reporting and deployment.

In addition, the Test Engineer conducts testing of golf equipment for Equipment Rules conformance, Test Service activities, and research initiatives. During periods of increased workload, the Test Engineer plays a key role in helping the team achieve established performance and KPI targets.

The Test Engineer is expected to work independently with minimal supervision and is responsible for organizing work priorities, performing quality control checks, analyzing data, and preparing clear and accurate technical summaries and reports. Strong problem-solving, project management, and communication skills are essential. Occasional travel may be required to support field testing and other testing-related activities.

Where you'll be:

This role will be based at our Pinehurst, NC campus. Employees are expected to spend 5 days per week working in the office. Occasional travel may be required to support field testing and other testing-related activities.

What you bring:
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years or relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and execute work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to follow and execute complex, multi-step written test procedures using laboratory and testing equipment.
  • Proficiency in software development or scripting for test automation, data analysis, or equipment control.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create clear technical reports and documentation.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and other common data analysis and reporting tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Ability to perform physical work within a laboratory environment, including lifting and carrying moderately heavy equipment, materials, and test fixtures.
Preferred
  • Experience calibrating, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory or test equipment.
  • Experience working within an ISO 9001 or similarly controlled quality management environment.
  • Knowledge of mechanical testing, instrumentation, sensors, data acquisition systems, or automated test systems.
  • Knowledge of golf equipment, golf ball performance testing, or the golf industry.
  • Experience managing technical projects from concept through implementation.

Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000

The annual base salary range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000 . This range represents what we reasonably expect to pay as starting base compensation for this role. Compensation is based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including skill set, depth of experience, and relevant certifications. In addition to your base compensation, the USGA provides competitive benefit offerings for all full-time employees.
