Job description

Territory Manager — Upper Midwest
About the Company

We are partnering with a well-established, vertically integrated manufacturer of abrasive solutions serving the metal finishing and metal fabrication industries. The company operates through a national network of industrial and e-commerce distribution partners rather than a traditional direct-sales model.

Its solutions are designed to help manufacturers improve productivity and profitability by reducing rework, downtime, and overall abrasive costs. With a team of approximately 80 employees at its Ohio headquarters and a national network of field-based sales professionals, the company combines the resources of an established manufacturer with the autonomy and entrepreneurial environment of a growing organization.

The culture emphasizes accountability, humility, coachability, collaboration, positive energy, and continuous improvement. Territory Managers are trusted to operate independently while receiving strong coaching and support from leadership.

Core Values

Quick, but not in a hurry — Make fast, informed decisions.

Positive & approachable — Bring a positive attitude and solve problems constructively.

Humble & coachable — Seek feedback and continuously improve.

Collaborate & win together — Work as a team and avoid silos.

Accountable & own it — Take ownership of KPIs, actions, and results.

The position.

We are seeking a Territory Manager to take ownership of an established and growing Upper Midwest territory covering Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, and Iowa.

This is a full-cycle, field-based sales position responsible for managing and expanding relationships with existing distribution partners, developing new business, managing opportunities from prospecting through close, and driving repeat and upsell business after the sale.

The ideal candidate is a relationship-oriented salesperson who can operate independently, build trust with distributors and end users, identify business problems, and position solutions based on measurable customer value.

This is not a transactional sales role. The Territory Manager will serve as a trusted advisor and project manager, coordinating internal and external resources to solve customer problems and move opportunities through the sales process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the territory’s full sales cycle, from prospecting through post-sale relationship management.
  • Maintain, develop, and expand relationships with industrial and e-commerce distribution partners.
  • Generate primarily self-sourced business opportunities within the assigned territory.
  • Identify customer needs and uncover opportunities related to productivity, rework, downtime, and ROI.
  • Follow a consultative sales process: Prospect → Qualify → Engage → Propose.
  • Manage active customer projects and coordinate internal and external resources to move opportunities forward.
  • Develop strong relationships with distributors and their end-user customers.
  • Act as a trusted advisor rather than relying on transactional selling.
  • Plan and execute sales activity independently across a large, multi-state territory.
  • Maintain accurate and disciplined CRM records and pipeline activity.
  • Conduct frequent in‑person customer and distributor visits.
  • Drive repeat business, upselling, and long-term account growth.
Required Qualifications
  • Previous sales experience in a B2B or B2C environment.
  • Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to understand customer needs and effectively “read the room.”
  • Must reside within Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, or Iowa.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record sufficient to meet company insurance requirements.
  • Ability to independently organize and manage a large geographic territory.
  • Strong self‑motivation and ability to work without daily supervision.
  • Comfortable with coaching, feedback, and continuous professional development.
  • Understanding of CRM principles and disciplined CRM usage.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base Salary: $70,000–$90,000
  • Uncapped Commission
  • $2,000/month at 100% quota attainment
  • $3,500/month at 115% attainment
  • Accelerators through 130% attainment
  • Additional 10% kicker on performance above 130%
  • Realistic Year 1 OTE: $94,000–$114,000
  • Realistic Year 2 OTE: Base salary plus approximately $24,000–$40,000 in commission potential
  • Stronger commission accelerators as performance increases

Additional Benefits

  • $500/month car allowance, paid weekly
  • Travel expenses covered according to company policy
  • Gas and vehicle maintenance reimbursement
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • HSA/FSA options
  • Basic and voluntary life and AD&D insurance
  • Short‑term and long‑term disability coverage
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Critical illness, accident, and hospital indemnity coverage
  • Company‑covered onboarding travel to headquarters
Travel Requirements

This is a heavily field-based position.

The Territory Manager should expect to spend approximately 3 out of every 4 weeks traveling throughout the assigned territory, visiting distributors, end users, and prospective customers.

Background & Compliance Requirements

Employment is contingent upon successfully completing:

  • Standard background check
  • Nine‑panel drug test, excluding THC
  • Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check

Why Join?

This is an opportunity to take ownership of a growing territory while working for a company that combines entrepreneurial autonomy with the support of an established manufacturer.

The Territory Manager will have significant freedom to manage their territory, build relationships, create new business, and directly influence growth. For a driven salesperson who enjoys field-based work and consultative selling, this role offers the opportunity to build a meaningful territory and grow alongside the organization.
