The Terminal Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the fuel terminal facility,
ensuring compliance with company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and all
applicable federal, state, local, and port regulations. This position supports the receipt, storage,
transfer, and distribution of petroleum products through terminal, truck, and marine vessel operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- 1. Safely handle chemicals and petroleum products through tank transfers, truck loading and unloading operations, and marine vessel transfer activities.
- 2. Assist with the safe loading and unloading of barges and ships, including monitoring product transfers and ensuring compliance with all safety, environmental, and operational procedures.
- 3. Perform readings of physical gauges, side gauges, meters, and other terminal monitoring equipment.
- 4. Monitor and document product movements between tanks, trucks, barges, and vessels while maintaining accurate operational records.
- 5. Maintain fuel accounting records, including daily inventories, receipts, transfers, and distributions.
- 6. Maintain equipment records for facility operations, transfer piping systems, and marine loading/unloading activities.
- 7. Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on terminal, dock, and loading equipment.
- 8. Assist mechanics and technicians in performing mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and general maintenance activities.
- 9. Maintain clean, organized, and safe terminal buildings, dock areas, and grounds.
- 10. Follow all company, regulatory, environmental, and port security requirements, including compliance with applicable U.S. Coast Guard regulations and terminal operating procedures.
- 11. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience in terminal operations, petroleum handling, industrial operations, marine transfer operations, logistics, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience working with fuel transfer systems, loading racks, tanks, pipelines, barges, ships, or other bulk liquid handling equipment is a plus.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to safely work with petroleum products and industrial equipment.
- Ability to read gauges, meters, operating instructions, and technical documents.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
- Ability to maintain accurate operational and inventory records.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced operational environment.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess and maintain a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
- Must be able to work in a marine terminal and port environment around petroleum products, marine vessels, trucks, and heavy equipment.
- Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Must be available to work overtime, weekends, holidays, rotating schedules, and emergency call-outs as operational needs require.
- Must be able to comply with all safety, environmental, and security policies and procedures.
