Job summary

Watco is seeking a Groundsman at the North Bergen Transload Terminal to support daily transloading operations, primarily handling lumber and other materials. The role emphasizes safety, loading/unloading, and basic maintenance in a rail-to-truck facility serving the New York metropolitan area.

The position offers starting pay of $20.00–$22.00 per hour DOE, with a Monday–Friday schedule from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM and opportunities to cross-train into a Forklift Operator role, plus on-the-job

Qualifications

• Read, write, and communicate in English; understand basic math.
• Must work well in a team and follow written and verbal directions.
• Experience in a lumber yard or around forklifts is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Must maintain regular attendance and high performance.
• Follow directions to complete tasks on schedule.
• Read, write, and communicate in English and understand basic math.
• Learn from directions and mistakes; apply procedures with good judgment.
• Follow Watco Safety and Operating principles.
• Complete documentation, recordkeeping and daily inventory.
• Lift up to 50 pounds; withstand outdoor conditions.
• Participate in safety briefings and pass on information.
• Operate engines/pumps within defined parameters while prioritizing safety and environment.
• Perform structural inspections as required.
• Work with a team; take direction and follow rules; flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends.
