Job summary

The University of North Alabama’s Department of Cinematic Arts and Theatre invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in the area of theatre beginning in fall 2027. This nine-month position with full benefits requires teaching a 12-credit-hour load per semester and possibly a 3-credit workload tied to theatrical production.

The appointee will develop an agenda of research/creative activity and mentor students.

Qualifications

• Terminal degree in theatre or a closely related field is required.
• Demonstrated college-level teaching experience in theatre or related disciplines is required.
• Evidence of an active professional and/or creative record in theatre is required.

Responsibilities

• Teach a 12-credit-hour course load per semester (with potential for a 3-credit-hour workload tied to production).
• Develop an ongoing agenda of research/creative activity
• Mentor students in academic, creative, and professional development
• Collaborate with film and theatre faculty on experiential learning and interdisciplinary projects
• Supervise departmental productions and events, including after-hours production work
• Contribute to curriculum development and assessment and assist with equipment/facilities stewardship
• Support recruitment, retention, and outreach efforts, including events like the George Lindsey UNA Film Festival
