Job summary

San José State University’s Mechanical Engineering Department invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in wildfire science and engineering, starting August 2027. Qualifications

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field by time of appointment.
  • Ability to teach thermo-fluids courses for undergrad and graduate students.
  • Demonstrated wildfire or fire science research relevance.
  • Awareness of educational goals for a diverse student population.

Responsibilities

  • Teach graduate and undergraduate mechanical engineering courses aligned with research interests.
  • Conduct research, publish results in peer-reviewed journals, secure grants, and supervise student work.
  • Collaborate with SJSU WIRC to seek funding and conduct wildfire research.
  • Participate in shared governance and service on department, college, and university committees.
  • Organize classes within the Canvas LMS.
