Job summary

University of Washington Tacoma’s School of Education invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Special Education with a specialization in Critical Disability Studies. The position is nine months, 100% FTE, with an expected start date of September 16, 2027.

Teaching loads include six standard courses per academic year and mentoring diverse students. The successful candidate will conduct research, participate in accreditation, program reviews, and service, and will teach in

Qualifications

• Earned doctorate in Special Education or related field by start date.
• Minimum of 3 years full-time credentialed PK-12 teaching in the USA.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching in candidate’s areas of expertise.
• Ability to develop and pursue a scholarly research agenda.

Responsibilities

• Teach and mentor students across modalities (in-person, online, hybrid).
• Maintain a rigorous scholarly agenda and engage in service activities.
• Contribute to accreditation, assessment, curriculum development, and program reviews.
• Lead and participate in school and campus committees and community partnerships.
