Job summary

The Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music at the University of Memphis invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Oboe, beginning Fall 2027.

The successful candidate will be an artist-level performer and teacher with a proven record of recruiting and student success. The role combines high-caliber oboe instruction with coached chamber ensembles, recruitment, and cross-disciplinary teaching.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in oboe performance or closely related field required.
• Doctorate preferred.
• Excellence in teaching oboe at the college level.
• Extensive experience as soloist, chamber musician, and/or orchestral musician.
• Ability and desire to teach in an area outside of oboe.

Responsibilities

• Teach applied oboe lessons, reed making, and pedagogy at the undergraduate level.
• Coach chamber ensembles.
• Recruit, mentor, and retain oboe students; maintain an active studio.
• Collaborate and perform with School of Music faculty.
• Teach coursework in an additional area (e.g., theory, history).
• Maintain regional, national, and international visibility through performing and teaching.
• Serve on and/or chair doctoral committees.
