Job summary

The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University of Chicago invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Modern Iberian Studies, starting July 1, 2027 or soon after. The successful candidate will study nineteenth to twenty-first century Iberian cultural traditions and contribute to literary and cultural studies.

The appointment includes teaching at graduate and undergraduate levels, advising, and participating in core curriculum, with a typical four-course

Qualifications

• Active research agenda with publication in leading venues or potential to develop such a record.
• Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Native or near-native competence in Spanish and in English; Portuguese and other Iberian languages desired.

Responsibilities

• Teach in both graduate and undergraduate curriculum, including the University’s College Core.
• Advise students at all levels and participate in departmental and university committees.
• Pursue own research agenda and collaborate with faculty across the division.
