Job summary

San Jose State University’s Mechanical Engineering Department invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning in July 2026. The candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, develop curricula and laboratories, and establish an externally funded research program.

Qualifications

• PhD in Mechanical Engineering or relevant field by the time of the appointment.
• Ability to teach & develop courses in thermo-fluids area for undergrad and graduate levels.
• Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to diverse student populations.

Responsibilities

• Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in mechanical engineering and related areas.
• Conduct research, publish in peer-reviewed journals, generate grants, supervise student research.
• Collaborate with SJSU WIRC to seek funding and research wildfire science and management.
• Participate in shared governance and service assignments.
• Organize classes within the Canvas LMS.
• Demonstrate commitment to inclusive education through course materials and advisement.
