Job summary

The Ohio State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Japanese linguistics within the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures (DEALL). The start date is August 15, 2027.

The successful candidate will teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, engaging with current debates in linguistics and related fields. We seek an outstanding scholar who will conduct robust research in Japanese linguistics, teach courses in Japanese

Qualifications

PhD in Japanese linguistics or related field by Aug 15, 2027 (ABD welcome).
Native or near-native fluency in English and Japanese.
College-level teaching experience is desirable.
Ability to provide quantitative training to analyze language data.

Responsibilities

Conducts a robust research program in Japanese linguistics across subfields with rigorous methods.
Teaches undergraduate courses in Japanese linguistics, language, and culture.
Teaches and mentors MA and Ph.D. students in the Japanese graduate program.
Contributes to interdisciplinary teaching and research with other programs.
Participates in departmental, college, and university service and committees.
Collaborates with faculty across the university to foster a collaborative intellectual environment.
