Job summary

Heartland Community College seeks a full-time tenure-track Phlebotomy faculty in the Health Sciences division for a 9-month appointment beginning Spring 2027; there is an optional assignment as Course Coordinator.

The hire will develop and review curricula, foster student success, teach a range of courses, assess outcomes, and participate in program review, while maintaining current practice and promoting equity and collaboration across campus.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher in a related health field.
  • Licensure or certification in a related field from a certified phlebotomist agency (ASPT/NCCT/NHA/National Phlebotomy Association).
  • Minimum of 3 years full-time work experience as a phlebotomist or related field.
  • Ability to teach daytime and/or evening courses.
  • Commitment to equity and inclusive student engagement.

Description

We seek applicants for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in Phlebotomy with the College's Health Sciences division. This is a 9-month position anticipated to begin Spring 2027. There is an optional additional assignment as the Course Coordinator.

Responsibilities
  • Create a learning environment that fosters student success and the attainment of defined learning outcomes
  • Participate in developing and reviewing curricula and instructional methods
  • Assist in the articulation of courses within the division
  • Develop, integrate and evaluate student learning outcomes within the framework of the Heartland Community College assessment protocols
  • Remain current in one's discipline
  • Advocate for student persistence and pathways to completion through cooperation with Student Success and Enrollment Services staff
  • Manage student issues and problems in a manner consistent with the Student Handbook
  • Serve the institution in a variety of ways; examples of service activity include, but are not limited to, participation on teams and committees, assistance with marketing and recruitment events, and promotion of a collegial work environment
  • Participate in program review

The hired individual may be expected to teach a range of courses as assigned.

Requirements
  • Associate degree or higher in a related health field
  • At least one of the following:
    • Licensure or certification in a related field from a certified phlebotomist agency such as: American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), National Healthcareer Association (NHA), National Phlebotomy Association
    • Certified or Registered Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)(RMA)
    • Licensed registered nurse (RN)
  • Minimum of 3 years of full-time work experience as a phlebotomist technician or in a directly related field
  • Availability to teach daytime and/or evening courses
  • Ability to work effectively and inclusively with diverse populations of students, colleagues, and community partners
Desired Qualifications
  • National Phlebotomy Instructor Certificate
  • Teaching, training, supervision, or mentoring experience
  • Curriculum development experience
  • Experience with instructional technology
  • Experience supporting or collaborating with healthcare partners
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills

Anticipated starting salary range for this 9-month position is $48,356 - $65,034, plus any applicable pay for overload and/or summer assignments.
