Job summary

University of Wisconsin–Madison Mead Witter School of Music invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Bassoon. The appointee will develop and lead a classical bassoon program, teach undergraduate and graduate lessons, mentor MM and DMA students, and perform with the Wingra Quintet.

Start date: August 23, 2027. A commitment to recruiting a full bassoon studio and engaging in service is expected.

Qualifications

• Doctorate or equivalent terminal degree in bassoon performance or related field.
• Proven teaching experience at undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Strong commitment to active performance and scholarly engagement.

Responsibilities

• Teach bassoon at undergraduate and graduate levels; conduct studio classes.
• Mentor MM and DMA bassoon students; recruit a full studio of bassoon majors.
• Teach bassoon fundamentals to Music Education undergraduates; offer chamber music pedagogy courses.
• Perform as a member of the Wingra Quintet and contribute to the school’s artistic goals.
• Engage in service activities and contribute to the educational mission of the College of Letters & Science.
