Job summary

Central State University seeks an Assistant/Associate Professor of Music and Band Director to lead the Invincible Marching Marauders, Robeson Chamber Winds, Pep Band, and Concert Band. The role includes teaching, advising, recruiting, and coordinating the Music Unit.

The candidate will supervise travel, performances, and events; develop curriculum; collaborate with the Music Unit and Athletics; and engage alumni and stakeholders in a NASM-accredited, HBCU environment.

Qualifications

• Earned Master’s degree with conducting emphasis from an accredited university.
• At least 5 years of successful teaching and conducting.
• Administrative experience including financial management of a band program.
• Experience with recruiting, fundraising, and maintaining alumni relationships.
• Preferred terminal degree (D.M.A. or Ph.D.) in Music Education or Music Performance with conducting emphasis.

Responsibilities

• Direct the band activities, including rehearsals, performances, and trips.
• Supervise students during travel, performances, and events.
• Teach classes such as Band and Orchestral Literature, Arranging, Conducting fundamentals.
• Advise students on course selection, scholastic planning, and graduation requirements.
• Recruit new band members and music majors for the Music Unit and the University.
• Oversee artistic direction, scholarship opportunities, inventory management, and fundraising.
