Eastern Washington University in Cheney, WA seeks an tenure-track Assistant Professor in Music as Band Director to begin mid-September 2027. The role centers on directing the Wind Ensemble and Marching/pep bands while teaching theory, conducting, and instrumental methods.

The position also includes area coordination for bands and active recruitment across regional programs. The successful candidate will mentor students pursuing performance and music education tracks and participate in

Qualifications

• MM (Master of Music) in Wind Band conducting.
• Record of success directing athletic bands such as marching band, pep band.
• Demonstrated experience in directing Wind Ensemble.
• 2+ years of experience in university-level teaching.
• Demonstrated recruitment initiatives in collaboration with regional high school band programs, and festival band events.
• Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that supports the needs, including universal accessibility, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.

Responsibilities

• Teach Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, and Pep Band; area coordinator for bands.
• Teach music theory, instrumental techniques, advanced conducting.
• Mentor students in performance and music education tracks.
• Participate in applied learning opportunities, internships, undergraduate research, and professional engagement.
• Lead recruitment initiatives with high school band programs and festival events.
• Lead the WMEA chapter and related activities.
