The Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences (BCS) at the Massachusetts InstituteofTechnology (MIT), located in Cambridge MA, invites applications for a faculty position atthe level of tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2027, or as soon thereafteras possible. We are conducting a search across all areas of brain and cognitive science,potentially including computation, cognitive science, or experimental neuroscience. A PhDdegree in neuroscience, biology, cognitive science, psychology, physics, electricalengineering, computer science, or another relevant field is required by the start ofemployment.

The Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences offers supportive mentorship to junior faculty, an exceptional environment for scientific inquiry, and a strong commitment to an inclusive, welcoming culture. Faculty duties include conducting original scholarly research, teaching courses at the graduate and undergraduate level in brain and cognitive sciences, and mentoring students. The normal teaching load is 1.5 subjects per year. We request that applications include: (a) curriculum vitae, (b) research statement, (c) a teaching and mentoring plan, (d) broader impact statement, (e) three representativereprints or pre-prints, and (f) three recommendations. The broader impact statement can cover topics including but not limited to service, contributions to the university community, or other means of supporting the educational environment. The pay range for a 9-month academic appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is$143,200 to $154,000. MIT provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of whatthe Institute reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of posting. The pay offered to a selected candidate during hiring will be based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience andeducation/training, internal peer equity, and applicable legal requirements. This pay range represents base pay only and does not include any other benefits or compensation.
