Job summary

The Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture at The City University of New York invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor in architectural history and urban studies starting Fall 2027. The candidate will focus on 20th and 21st centuries within global, transregional contexts and teach in the Urban Studies program and architecture curricula.

The successful candidate will teach required city history courses, advise capstone majors, and may offer advanced seminars

Qualifications

• Ph.D. degree in architectural history, urban history or equivalent.
• Ability to teach successfully.
• Demonstrated scholarship or achievement.
• Ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Responsibilities

• Teach the core courses for the BA in Urban Studies and the Built Environment: Introduction to Urban Studies and the City in History.
• Advise majors in a required two-semester capstone project.
• Teach a global history of 20th- and 21st-century architecture in SSA’s B.Arch. and M.Arch programs.
• Opportunity to teach advanced seminars in the area of specialization.
